Transition into a High-Power Trade: Industrial Vacuum, Storm Drain & Hydro-Excavation SkillBridge

US UTILITY SERVICES

Bridge the gap between your service and a high-demand career. As a Specialist, you’ll master the "Triple Threat" of utility services: using high-pressure water jetting to clear blockages, cleaning storm drains to prevent flooding, and hydro-excavating to safely uncover infrastructure. No prior civilian experience required—just a mechanical mindset and the drive to get the job done.

  1. What You’ll Gain:

    • Storm & Sewer Expertise: Master high-pressure jetting to scour lines and remove heavy debris from storm drainage systems.

    • Heavy Equipment Mastery: Learn to operate industrial-strength vacuum units, hydraulic booms, and high-flow pumps.

    • Environmental Impact: Play a critical role in South Florida’s infrastructure by maintaining systems that prevent flooding.

    • Direct Career Path: Our SkillBridge program is a direct pipeline to full-time, long-term employment.

Vacuum Truck Operator Soft digging with Hydro Excavation

What is a Vac-Truck Operator?

In this role, you are the front line of city maintenance. You’ll operate "Jet-Vac" trucks that use specialized nozzles and thousands of pounds of water pressure to blast through root intrusions and silt in storm drains. Once the debris is loose, you’ll utilize high-powered vacuum systems to remove hundreds of gallons of sludge, ensuring the pipes are clear and functional. When the lines are clean, you’ll pivot to Hydro-Excavation—using that same water power to "Soft Dig" and safely expose high-voltage or gas lines.

A Day in the Field

6:30AM: Pre-trip Inspection

Morning: Meet at the shop, perform a multi-point inspection of the Vac-Truck, check water levels, and ensure all vacuum hoses and safety gear are secured.

On-Site

Set up over a clogged storm grate. You’ll deploy the "Vactor" boom to suck out heavy debris and silt, then use the jetting hose to "wash down" the line to a polished finish. Later, you may move to a utility site to hydro-excavate and verify a water main's depth.

Afternoon

Decant the water at a disposal site, dump the solid debris, perform a post-job wash-down of the truck and hoses, and prep the gear for the next mission.
